Two tools for two different spatial questions

Kua and Annual Flying Stars both use directional language, but they are not the same chart and do not answer the same question. Sibyl keeps personal-year logic, annual palaces, and building assessment visibly separate.

01 · Personal Kua

Kua: a personal entry point to direction

Kua is calculated from Feng Shui year and birth sex. Sibyl uses Li Chun as the year boundary and handles the gender-specific substitution for Kua 5 explicitly. The approved Eight Mansions table is engine-owned and returns group, trigram, element, and all eight direction categories; presentation only explains and places them.

Calculate Kua

02 · Annual grid

Annual Flying Stars: one year's nine palaces

Annual Flying Stars place 1–9 across nine palaces. Sibyl's 3×3 view uses a north-up display convention and only places the engine-supplied direction → star values; it never recalculates the flight order.

03 · Year boundary

Why the Li Chun boundary matters

A birth in January or early February may still belong to the previous Feng Shui year. Sibyl compares the boundary against one absolute solar-term instant. The current source is a provisional calendrical adapter, so a precision-sensitive birth fails closed for higher-precision review instead of being guessed from a calendar date.

04 · Orientation

North-up is a display convention

Northwest, North, and Northeast form the top row; West, Center, and East the middle; Southwest, South, and Southeast the bottom. This is Sibyl's north-up display convention 1.0.0, not a claim that every lineage must orient charts the same way.

Separate the two method lanes first

Both lanes use years and directions, but their inputs, outputs, and answerable questions are different.

Personal lane

From birth date to Kua identity

This lane establishes the Feng Shui year before calculating Kua, then uses the approved Eight Mansions table for identity and eight direction categories. It still is not a complete property assessment.

  1. 01

    Local civil birth date

The full date establishes whether the birth still belongs to the previous Feng Shui year.

  2. 02

    Absolute Li Chun instant

The birth instant is compared with one global solar-term instant rather than only a Gregorian year.

  3. 03

    Versioned Kua calculation

The deterministic engine returns Feng Shui year and Kua, including the Kua 5 substitution rule.

  4. 04

    Versioned Eight Mansions table

Rule version 1.0.0 returns stable direction IDs, categories, and traditional polarity; this guide only explains returned facts.

Annual lane

From year to a nine-palace annual overlay

This lane places a year's centre star and follows the existing Lo Shu flight order to form nine palaces. It is a time overlay, not a substitute for a property survey.

  1. 01

    Choose a year

Annual pages retain the year, version, and provenance boundary needed for review.

  2. 02

    Centre star

The year's centre value comes from the existing deterministic rule or a reviewed fixed annual record.

  3. 03

    Lo Shu flight order

The nine supplied values follow centre, northwest, west, northeast, south, north, southwest, east, and southeast.

  4. 04

    Nine-palace reading

Each palace can connect to a nine-star profile without generating renovation, health, or investment advice.

Shared vocabulary

Eight terms that keep the systems legible

These definitions explain how Sibyl uses each term without presenting a traditional interpretation as a scientific conclusion.

Kua
A personal number calculated from Feng Shui year and the tradition's sex input; the final result is never 5.
Feng Shui year
A year coordinate that changes at Li Chun rather than on 1 January.
Li Chun
One of the twenty-four solar terms, used here as the absolute-instant boundary for the Feng Shui year.
Eight Mansions
The approved method table relating Kua to Sheng Qi, Tian Yi, Yan Nian, Fu Wei, Huo Hai, Wu Gui, Liu Sha, and Jue Ming directions.
Annual Flying Stars
A time overlay distributing nine annual star values across nine palaces.
Nine palaces
A 3×3 spatial frame with one centre and eight directional palaces.
Lo Shu flight order
The fixed sequence used to move annual values through the palaces; display orientation is governed separately.
Period 9
The 2024–2043 twenty-year context used by the nine-star profiles; it is not a personal verdict.

Scope ladder

Three levels that do not substitute for one another

  1. 01

    Personal identity and directions

The Kua tool returns Feng Shui year, Kua, group, trigram, element, and the eight categories from the approved Eight Mansions table.

  2. 02

    Annual overlay

Annual Flying Stars answer how nine star values occupy the palaces for one year.

  3. 03

    Property assessment

Facing, construction period, floor plan, openings, and site conditions belong to a fuller building method that this product does not provide.

What these tools do not do

A personal Kua result is not a building Feng Shui audit. Annual Flying Stars also do not include house facing, construction period, doors, windows, or site conditions. The tools provide cultural and reflective information, not construction, health, investment, or safety advice.

Method and evidence

Existing deterministic output comes from Feng Shui calculation engine 0.2.0 and Rule version 1.0.0. The fixed table and cases completed independent review; presentation does not recalculate the result or reconstruct the direction table. Li Chun timing currently uses a provisional calendrical adapter, so precision-sensitive boundaries fail closed for review.
